Glasgow: Bad Weather, Great Vibe

Glasgow: Bad Weather, Great Vibe

Very easy and very worth it! Despite battling classic Scottish weather (cold and rainy), we still found some gems. Definitely going back when it's warmer and dryer.

To Eat

With just one day, we only managed one proper meal. Ubiquitous Chip is legendary for fish and chips (currently closed but worth checking if it reopens). We chose Hanoi Bike Shop for pho instead, which was perfect call for a freezing, rainy day. The broth warmed us right up and the food was delish.

To Drink

Shilling Brewing Company | Excellent beer selection housed in a gorgeous old bank building. Amazing atmosphere.

Òran Mór | Bar in a converted church. It's an institution, so everyone recommends.

Tabac | Creative cocktails

To Do

Glasgow's perfect for wandering, with tons of parks, gardens, and university areas to explore. Don't miss:

  • Princes Street | Main pedestrian area with the iconic Peacock Building

  • St. Enoch | Cute little Christmas market

  • The Lighthouse | Currently closed, but offers great city views when open

  • Ashton Lane | Magical with overhead lights. Super photogenic, especially at night

THE LOGISTICS

Travel Date | December 2021

Transportation |

  • ScotRail from Edinburgh to Queen Street Station (about an hour).

  • The city is walkable, plus there's a handy subway system.

Pro Tips |

  • Book ScotRail tickets a day or two ahead for better prices and times
